We're alive....

According to the way things are going on nowadays I am surprised I am alive.
You see, I am a product of the 70's.

Back then (okay, it wasn't that long ago, she tried to convince herself), children slept in beds that were painted with lead based paint, there were no security caps on medicine bottles, no safety devices on doors or cabinets and no-one had ever even heard of a bicycle helmet.

We didn't wear seatbelts in the car (Oh my!!), we drank water straight from the garden hose and not from fancy expensive bottles.

We ate bread with butter, drank lots of regular soda, but we never got fat because we were always outside playing and running around. We happily drank from the same soda bottles as our friends and noone ever died from it.

We spent countless hours trying to build soap box cars so we could race downhill as fast as we could only to realize we never put brakes on it. After a couple of crashes, we learnt how to avoid them.

We left our houses early in the morning and never returned until the street lights went on. Nobody could get a hold of us all day because there were no cell phones. Sounds scary??

We had no Playstations, X-boxes, Wii's or any other videogames. We didn't have 245 different channels, no dvd's, no videos, no computers and no chat rooms on-line. We had friends. We went outside to find them.

We fell out of trees, got bruised, scraped, brok a few bones and knocked out a few teeth. Nobody sued us. They were accidents and nothing more. We could only blame ourselves. Do you remember these accidents? We fought and got over it.

We made up games using sticks and rocks. We ate grass, dirt and mud. Eventhough we heard the warnings, very few eyes were actually poked out and grass never grew in our stomachs.

We rode our bikes, went to each others houses, knocked on the door, walked in and took part in the conversation. Conversation????

Some kids weren't as smart as others, they failed and needed to repeat a grade. How terrible!!

As you can see, we lived very dangerous lives and yet here we are. We are still alive. It really is amazing.
