Freedom of Speech......or not.

In this country we have Freedom of Speech.........or so they say.
In this country we also have separation of church and state........or so they say.

Every morning my children stand up in school and say the pledge of allegiance which, in the South, includes the words, "one nation under God". This is where there is no separation of church and state. It doesn't bother me, I can live with it. I know that if my children were uncomfortable with it, they just wouldn't say it. They're smart that way. No big deal.

On Tuesday, President Obama is giving a televised speech to our children on the importance of staying in school and the importance of an education.
Our principal has chosen to not show the televised event as they would like to keep all politics out of the school system!!! Excuse me???? This is the elected President talking. What happened to Freedom of Speech? The principal is covering up his actions by saying that we can watch it at home on-line. What a lame excuse.
We didn't even get the option of watching it. Other schools have sent home a form where you can opt out of watching it. Other schools around the country have rearranged schedules so that all the kids can watch it.

I am disappointed in our school and our principal. It makes me want to move, I think it is embarassing when schools choose to not execute Freedom of Speech.
I am not sure what I am going to do yet, maybe keep the kids home for the speech?
And I guarantee you, had it been President Bush speaking about staying in school, all the kids would have had to watch it.

Further more, I think it is so sad when parents choose not to have their children listen to the speech. Just because they don't like the President, doesn't mean their kids shouldn't like them. Our children are ours to guide, not to brain wash. As parents it is our job to help our children become independent responsible citizens, not to tell them what to believe in. It is our job to respect their beliefs and wishes. We might not accept them, but we have to respect them.

Please

Please, someone tell me how to get rid of a neighbor who is constantly letting her dog loose and then runs up and down the street screaming for the dog.............at 5 am or 11 pm or anytime in between.

Please, someone tell me how to get rid of a cat that, belongs to somebody (maybe neighbor), constantly sits outside my front door tormenting my cats. In the middle of the night I hear these very loud noises, sure enough, there's the cat.
For the past 3 days I have doused said cat with ice cold water hoping to scare it off. It hasn't worked. What to do next?

It's driving me crazy and all of a sudden I am secretly dreaming of owning various weapons........

I'm baaaaack.

It's been a while, but I lost the desire to write anything. But here's what's happening, and Eleanor, I'm doing this for you...............

We went to Helen with my mom and her boyfriend. We wanted to go tubing and since it's rained a lot we figured the water should be pretty high. We were right.
My mom and I were attached and we were doing fine for the first.........2 minutes and then we got stuck. A very nice young man and his wife got us unstuck and off we went........for 2 minutes. Then we were stuck again. 15 minutes later we are well on our way when I can't seem to get the tube moving. I'm in the front tube with the stick and the tube is not moving. Turns out my mom is stuck, but I only found that out when I managed to get us unstuck and she flipped out of the tube and landed face first in the water. We laughed so hard for so long and when my mom tried to get back in the tube, she flipped out again. When we got to the end I tried to get out of the tube, but then I flipped out and we started laughing again. The thing is, once my mom and I start laughing (and it's usually over silly things) we have a hard time stopping. One time in NYC we were at a off broadway play where we laughed so hard, they stopped the play to wait for us. Joel was slightly mortified.
It was a fun trip. My mom left with a gigantic bruise on her arm, I left with a very sore heel and Joel left without our credit card, 'cause he lost it in the river!!
On the way home we had to stop to get gas. Joel gets out of the car, puts in the nozzle and goes to the bathroom. My mom tells us that she would never do that, because she would be paranoid the automatic filler feeler thingie wouldn't work and that there would be gas all over. We told her that that could never happen and what do you know. That's exactly what happened. And no, I can't think of a better word than filler feeler thingie.

A couple of days later I took part in my very first sprint triathlon. I don't know why I thought this would be a great way of celebrating my 1 year anniversary of working out, but why not. It all went great and I can't wait to do it again. I feel bad for the woman who brought 2 right shoes, the women whose bike chains fell off, the woman who had a panic attack 15 ft into the water and I feel bad for my friend who threw up upon crossing the finish line.

The roonies are back in school, Hallelujah (sorry if that offends anyone, but it's my blog and I don't really care if I offended you). Summers are great, but school is greater. I love my children, but we get along so much better when they are at school. So, I head off to a job interview, thinking I am looking into getting a job. However.......if you are an interviewer please please please dress up, look people in the eyes and stop chewing gum!!! WTF!!! How unprofessionel is that??? Well, I'm going with my gut feeling on that one and will find somewhere else to interview.

So, Lucas wants to use deodorant. Why I don't know, but who am I to tell him how he smells if he thinks he smells bad. So we head off to Target and he is roaming the aisle. He wants something that smells good, he says and head straight for the Axe display. He takes off the cap, takes a whiff and shouts, "Wow, they lie on their commercials.", he puts the cap back on and decides that maybe some SpongeBob bodywash will do it for him for now. I secretly do a little cheer as I can't fathom what it would be like to have a son who constantly would be smelling like my old boyfriends. Weird.

So, Eleanor, we're at the end of my blogging for now. Maybe if I hang out with you some more, fun things will happen and I can blog about them...

It's here!!!

The new guitar arrived today.
Guess what?? It's the wrong one. But this time we are keeping it. It's nicer than the one my mom originally bought and should this one explode, we have 2 back-ups in the garage!!

Good service/Bad service?? You tell me.

Okay, so back in April, my mom bought Kirsten an acoustic guitar from First Act. We bring it home, open the box and not only did we get one that wasn't finished, it was dirty and had clearly been used. I take it back to the store and they exchange it with the only one left. That one was finished, but clearly used. It was all they had and at that point Kirsten just wanted her guitar. 2 months go by with days and evenings filled with made-up songs and lots of guitar playing (if you want to call it that) and all of a sudden the guitar literally explodes!!! The bottom part that is screwed into the body of the guitar blew off and the screws went flying. Very lucky Kirsten still has 2 functioning eyes. She was heart broken.
Of course I no longer had the receipt or any paper work on the guitar so I thought that was the end of that. Then one day I come across some paperwork form the electric guitar we bought Lucas and it happened to be from the same company. I gave them a call and a very nice man apologized and said he would sent out a new guitar immediately and he told me to just throw the old one out.
I throw it out and a couple of days later the new guitar arrives. Guess what?? It looks just like the first one we bought. Not finished and clearly used.
I call the very nice man again who apologizes again and promises to send out a new guitar and this time he is personally going to inspect it first. I ask him what to do with the guitar I have and he tells me he is going to send me a return label.
Today we receive the new guitar and guess what?? It's not the right guitar, it's a smaller one.
Once again I call the very nice man and explain to him that it's the wrong guitar. He tells me they didn't have any of the other ones so he thought we would like a smaller one. I tell him that it's too small for my daughter and I that I really think this is ridiculous at this point. He apologizes again and promises to send out yet another guitar. I also tell him that he didn't send a return label and he tells me to just keep the other guitars!!!
So in about one weeks time I will have 3 brand new guitars in the house!
I am not sure whether that is good service or bad service. What do you think?
On one hand I think it's good service that they keep replacing the damn thing, on the other hand they should've gotten it right the first time. And what about me keeping all those guitars?
Maybe we will all learn how to play them and go on tour. "The Rubenstein's Rocks the Acoustic Guitars"......................maybe not.
