I was a little nervous to be driving that far by myself (14 hours), but it turned out to be no problem at all.
This trip is taking us to 9 different states. We drove through Georgia into South Carolina. Then we hit North Carolina and then we hit Virginia. Virginia was absolutely the most beautiful thing I have ever seen.
The Shenandoah Valley is magical. We had some rain along the way and when the sun came out, we saw this beautiful rainbow. I actually pulled over on the side of the highway to take the picture. So cool.
We drove for 10 hours the first day, stopping in Winchester, VA for the night. We had dinner at a quaint McDonalds, complete with fireplace and chandeliers. The kids called it "The Livingroom".
We spent the night at The Red Roof Inn, which Kirsten thought was an amazing coincidence that the roof was red!!
The next morning we hit the road at 7 am and then we got stuck in traffic right as we entered Maryland (we had also gone through West Virginia)
A tractor trailer had overturned and the road was closed. We took a detour and an hour later we were back on the highway. We reached our destination at noon and we were all happy to get out of the car.
