Why is it that people think it is okay to make fun of you because you have an accent? Why do they think it's okay to actually laugh at you if you say something that might not sound the way they want it to? And why is that the people who like to make fun of you only speak one language themselves?
It's the same people who don't own passports, who have barely ever left the state and who thinks it's dangerous to go to Manhattan. Ignorant people. That's who they are.

Are they mean laughs or friendly laughs?
I have friends that make fun of me when I make mistakes, but rather that my friends correct me, than having total strangers secretly laugh at me :-)
I also belong to a group of women who are learning Spanish, and I laugh at the americans from the south, who have a very broad accent. That probably makes me no better than the people you are talking about.......
Lene, They are ignorant comments! I don't mind if you laugh at me to my face and then correct me, but don't be mean spirited.
It's different if you are in a group setting where everybody is learning a language.
Roevbananer, that's what they are - the lot of them!
I agree with Tina. And they are probably jaloux (which I cannot spell) even though they'd never admit it.
I couldn't agree with you more. Roevbananer, that's what they are:)
It's so sad that some people live that way.
