I think I have used that title before, but it's coming in handy again:)
At the gym I have noticed a young man who, a couple of months ago, was in a wheel chair.
Immediately I started thinking, what could have happened to him and immediately I felt bad for him. The stories in my head got crazier and crazier as the weeks went by and he got out of the wheelchair and now just uses a cane to get around. Was he wounded at war? Maybe he got run over by a car? Maybe he was in a natural disaster and rescued himself from an erupting volcano or a tsunami?
Then yesterday I saw him at Target with a little girl who looked just like him. I'm assuming it was his daughter and once again I felt bad. Not only for the father who wouldn't be able to run and play catch with his daughter, but also for the daughter who has to grow up with a father who can't play catch with her. So sad.
Today I found out the reason for the wheelchair and the cane. He was in fact in a terrible car accident on the high way and he is very lucky to be alive. Here's the kicker: he was the driver. He chose to get behind the wheel and drive 120 mph (double the speed limit) down a super busy highway.
All my sympathy for him went straight out the door and my first thought was, "Well, then he deserves to be using that cane."
I still feel really bad for his daughter whose father is a mega idiot with no sense of responsibility.
So much for thinking good thoughts about someone when you see them.
