Well, actually it was in the oven. I made a beautiful chicken liver pate today. I guess there was grease at the bottom of the oven, 'cause when I checked on it the whole kitchen filled with smoke! We opened all the doors, almost froze to death, but figured it was quicker than dying from smoke inhalation........
Next thing you know, the whole oven is up in flames!! All the grease had caught fire and the flames were spewing out. I closed the oven door, turned the oven off, thought for split second about finding my camera to take a picture, and then decided to actually do something about this, by now, rather large fire. So i opened the oven door, took all the racks out and then beat the crap out of the flames. The whole thing lasted maybe 30 seconds, but let me tell you what an impression it made on the kids. They now seem to think I am a hero for saving their lives in a deadly fire when I'm really just a lazy mom who never got around to cleaning the oven. Please don't tell them this, being a hero has its advantages. Kirsten rubbed my back tonight because she was so thankful.
I guess I'll clean the oven tomorrow which really is a lot of hard work: a simple push of one button.
