My least favorite day is here. New Year's Eve.
The only good memory I have of this night is from many years ago when Joel and I ran the Midnight 5K in Central Park. That was fun. We were so cold, it was a brisk 13 Fahrenheit and we were bundled up like Michelin men. We ran the whole 5 K holding hands, cheesy I know, and at every water stop there was champagne. After the race we spent a loooong time getting a taxi, went home and rolled into bed, cold and exhausted. It was my best New Year's ever. Oh, and one of the very few where I managed to stay awake for Midnight.
For the past 24 hrs I have heard this question so many times,"What's your New Year resolution?" I used to always have one and I never stuck to it. Last year I even went as far as becoming an honorary Chinese citizen just so I could start over on Chinese New Years.
This year I'm not making any resolutions. Well, I guess that's a resolution, to not make any.
Today is also the day where a lot of people reflect on the year that went by. I chose to do this by generating a "most used words in your Facebook status" from 2010. The top 3 words were "happy","love" and "Edinburgh".
Judging by those words it must have been a pretty good year. It was. I became an aunt to a beautiful boy, Erik. I don't remember a prouder moment other than when I held my own children for the first time.
It was also a year of way too much cancer around me. Friends and family all battled this awful disease. Most won the battle, but we still lost one too many. I still don't understand it.
Anyways, wherever you are out there I hope you have a fantastic 2011.
Oh, and the sock knitting never happened........I got sucked into yet another episode of The Good Wife.
